The definitive ranking of the top roast pork sandwiches in Philadelphia
The Roast Pork, the true Philadelphia Sandwich.
@voltronic I was in Philly a few weeks ago visiting a group of friends and some did argue that the roast pork doesn’t get enough credit as being the iconic sandwich. We stopped in Reading Terminal for lunch and half got the roast pork and half the cheesesteak. I was on team cheesesteak but next time, I’m going to have to go with the roast pork. It looked good!
@badkoukla
Reading Terminal has some of the best food in the whole city. The cheesesteak place in there is far from the best, which is why I always try to steer people to DiNic's for the roast pork. Pro tip: You want the pork with provolone and broccoli rabe or sauteed spinach, and ask for it extra wet. They will spoon on the juices it cooked in overnight, and the roll soaks it right up. There's a reason it won "Best Sandwich in America".
@badkoukla
If you want the best cheesesteak, go to D'Allesandro's in Roxborough. It's worth the drive. Whatever you do, stay very far away from Pat's or Geno's, which are among the very worst.

I'm wanting to try the cheese steaks people rave about from Mama's Pizzeria in Bala Cynwyd, but holy crap, they're never open (and they don't have pizza).

@voltronic my kid is going to Temple in the fall and between that and a lot of friends in the area, I’ll have plenty of opportunities to give these all a try.
@badkoukla
Great school. Good luck to your kid.
@voltronic thank you! She’s so excited and we’re very happy for her.
@voltronic I trust your judgment too - I tried Happy Mug coffee on your rec and it is fantastic. This is batch two from them; it just arrived today. The Ethiopians are new to me and I can’t wait to try one tomorrow.
@badkoukla
That Durato Bombe is another one of my favorites from them.
Also try the Costa Rica La Minita Estate whenever it's in stock.
^ I will say that the correct place won this ranking. It is far superior to #2 in my opinion.
Anytime I hear someone say they are going to Philly for a short time and want a good cheesesteak, I tell them you need to go to this place first instead.
