"Anybody who thinks it's time to play militia, F around and find out."

Philly DA isn't putting up with that shit.

In Texas, 48.51% of voters have already voted. In 2022, the TOTAL voter turnout was 45.7%.

Now that wasn't a Presidential election, but in in 2020, the total was 66% and in 2016 it was 58.4%.

I expect record turnout this year.

Okay, everyone:

Not only is the butler not any sort of an oracle, he has no idea of ANYTHING that's happened since about mid-2021.

Jeeves cannot tell you ANYTHING about "current events".

May the wings of Liberty never lose a feather.

Today's the day, Citizen. If you never do your duty any other day, ever, in your entire privileged life, do it today. Not for yourself, but for all those who can't stand up for themselves, all those who gave their lives to defend democracy, and for the generations yet to be born. You want a better nation? You have to be a better citizen.

Today is the day. Now, get after it.

in garbage bags will always be funny to me. From the maxi-pads on their ears to made in China "God Bless the USA" Bibles to their trash bags, they remind me of that kid in elementary school who would eat bugs for attention. Hate destroys everything including the haters.

October reading stats

22 titles
3,758 pages
10 titles 110 pages and over

More print books than usual.
Apparently I didn't read any non-fiction.

No five stars for me this month, but several four+.

House of Leaves
It Would be Night in Caracas
Bury Your Gays
A Botanical Daughter
Patricia Wants to Cuddle

And of course the Swamp Thing volumes and the 1818 Frankenstein.

Thinking of starting a reading blog. House of Leaves would be a fantastic book to start with.

What makes this piece so effective is its plain language and its information density. This density is a real strength of hypertext that is often overlooked and taken for granted. Only 110 words in that paragraph but it contains 27 links to other NYT opinion pieces published over the last several months that expand on each linked statement or argument. If you were inclined to follow these links, you could spend hours reading about how unfit Trump is for office.

Pro-Trump activists are using Jim Crow-era laws to disenfranchise voters. Unfortunately, while the The Georgia NAACP, Black Voters Matter Fund, Rainbow PUSH Coalition, and other frontline organizations have sued over these challenges, the U.S. Justice Department is, so far, nowhere to be seen.

And all of this is remarkable because until about a year and a half ago, I was reading about four books a *year*.

I was a reader as a kid, and through school, but...

- Untreated sleep apnea meant that any time I relaxed, I nodded off. By the time I had it treated, I was out of the habit.
- Pain in my forearms, wrists, and hands (too much time on the computer) made it hard to hold a book. One reason I LOVE my eReader.
- Streaming is a time suck

I'm *delighted* I've made reading my #1 hobby.

Look up your state in this infographic, and sharpie the hotline to the back of your hand.

If you see *anything* *ANYTHING* that makes you or anyone else feel unwelcome, intimidated, threatened - don't doubt yourself and CALL IMMEDIATELY.

Sharpie these words to the inside of your arm:

"Give me a provisional ballot with receipt as required by law."

If you are told there is a problem with your registration and you are turned away from voting - SAY THESE EXACT WORDS TO THE ELECTION CLERK.

❗ Stay at the polling place ❗
❗ Do not leave until you have are given a provisional ballot and a receipt, with instructions on how to track your ballot ❗

Currently reading:

Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee (digital)

Enter Boogeyman (physical, short story collection)

Might also start an audiobook. Maybe Fingersmith. Which is almost 24 hours. Or John Gardner's Grendel.
