Start the new job on Monday!
I-9 has been notarized. Work computer is on its way. Invite to orientation received.
It was a weird job hunt. Lots of interviews but hiring managers taking their time and interviewing a lot of people.
Also, apparently a lot of companies (including the one that hired me) no longer use references--just background checks.

@tyghebright reference checks have been perfunctory for me for a while because litigation caused a lot of CYA. Most anyone will say is very basic.
