Do not ever soak cast iron.
@tyghebright oh, I was thinking it was something to do with racism. No, you’re absolutely right. Never soak cast iron. If you need to get rust off of it, use white vinegar.
For those who don't know, the answer is about 8 hours (or overnight) in soapy water.
You can get rid of really bad stuck on by adding a touch of vinegar to a dry pan and letting that sit overnight

I mean, that's just a 2/1/1 ratio of salt, pepper, and old bay seasoning, then it's all seasoned up.
