Did not have time to post on the titanic sub tragedy as it unfolded.

lesson
- too quickly pushing new technology before it's mature or fully understood.
- not following established approaches for lethal risk.

Human spaceflight has learned lessons.

Preliminary thought b4 comparing to space travel:

While the tech complexity has strong parallel, the sub was 4 personal profit.

Human spaceflight has entered the private profit arena, but at standards set by decades of tech development.

1/4

NASA defines Technology Readiness Levels for high risk tech which will be referenced later in this thread.

For more on profiteering on ocean tech, the best take I read on this event is
twitter.com/Stonekettle/st…

The preparation that @Stonekettle discusses should include testing.

Developmental testing for design seems to have been conducted.

Operational testing addresses all the things that may go wrong in use of new tech and must reflect Real-world conditions to nail down maturity

2/4

There are Nine Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) NASA uses to describe risk 4 human life in use of a new system.

TRL 8 should have been demonstrated b4 this sub was launched

To reach TRL 8, a functional system identical to that used for a crew would need to be operated at the depths desired in a robotic run. TRL 7

If successful, additional runs should be attempted in all possible scenarios that a crew may encounter, including lower depth.

3/4

Consider NASA's return to the Moon mission underway - Artemis.

Multiple flights are being undertaken as with Apollo.

The Artemis I uncrewed mission completed successfully on Dec 11, 2022
nasa.gov/specials/artemis/

Private enterprise profiteering on potentially lethal new technology must demonstrate safety at this standard.

Regulation must b understood 2 ensure public safety.

For health technology the lethality has 2b stated in a Surgeon General warning w/ procedures for safe usage.

4/4

Did not have time to share full thoughts on the titanic sub tragedy as it unfolded.

There's a lesson on too quickly pushing new technology before it's mature or fully understood. There are established approaches for lethal risk.

Human spaceflight has learned lessons, some the hard way

DeSantis signed a legislation, that targets undocumented immigrants and meant to discourage immigration into Florida. The Miami Herald found the law has created a climate of fear among undocumented workers in the state, as well as among employers.

Trump needs a gag order.

With an actual gag.

There are several reasons why Native Americans are not included more in mainstream society.

One is a lack of awareness and understanding of Native American cultures and histories.

Many Americans have been taught a Eurocentric version of history that overlooks or minimizes the contributions of indigenous peoples.

Also, discrimination & policies make it difficult for Native Americans to access resources/opportunities that are available to other groups.

to briefly explain, I double dipped on classes to have them apply in two different places. a system that was not illegal at the time I did it. my school figured it out when I came back to finish after some health issues. they are angry I “swindled” money from them. after they misappropriated the little grant money I got.

they don’t want to give me anything. I’ve been battling for years. I thought the whole forgiveness thing could help my case. but I went to school in Missouri, so haha.

My community is wonderful. We are all cut off from everything due to the flood damage to the road, because a new raging torrent just bit parts of it off in large chunks and threw it all away. These are unprecedented and historic times for my area. New bridges will have to be built. Neighbors are sharing food with each other as we get through this.

It's sure good to be rural at a time like this.

Big fluffy thunderbird is almost finished. If it turns out they’re too heavy, I’ll make an amulet bag but I think they’ll be fine. It’s hard to see under this light.. much better during the day.

What are we to expect? People with obscene amounts of money that they did nothing to earn...beyond conning the rubes....tend to think that they're actual gods, with all the rights and privileges thereof. Musk, the Trumps, Murdoch and his clan, the Mercers, the Kochs. The list is endless, and will remain endless until we return to sane system of taxation.
