Resilience is my superpower, and a large aspect of that is I've developed an internal locus of control. Studies show such outlooks have higher rates of happiness. I don't know about happy, but I do better than many who have been through what I have, and sometimes that was told to me even by people who weren't being paid by me to say nice things in a therapeutic setting.

Morning thought:

If you assume that your interest in this world stops with your death, you will forever be addicted to short-sighted schemes that cause future misery, reasoning: "Well, I won't be around to see (the Big Crash/the Climate Catastrophe/Mass Starvation/the Superpandemic/Ecocide/ Nuclear War) so I don't have to worry about it."

Live like the world your (and/or other people's) children and grandchildren have to live in matters.

It's rarely if ever worth it to call someone out by name, particularly people who aren't public personages. If you want to make the point that what they're doing is wrong, you can criticize the *action* that you disagree with, without bringing individuals into it at all. Some people may even take that kind of criticism in good part. But if you go after them as individuals, most likely you just put their back up and get them hyper-defensive.

By the way, just in case any American out there needs to know this, food stamps can be used to buy seeds and food bearing plants.

Amazingly when I got covid I never gave it to my hubby. The minute I took home test and it was positive I isolated in our guest room which has attached bathroom and never left until I finished Paxlovid and tested negative. He brought me meals left tray at door and left my meds on first day. Tip: Have supplies in a guest room like towels, cleaning stuff, linen, meds like Tylenol, cold meds thermometer in a drawer. This quick isolation and no contact between us for a week saved him from being sick

I don't understand how my oldest can talk to the dog, Romeo, without quoting Shakespeare even once.

Thinking about the cold war's propaganda and how heavily it influenced the conservative party, and how ironic it is that a war that never fully happened still has such lingering fallout and ill-effects.

This quote, which I saw and saved earlier this year, expresses why fossils have always fascinated me:

"The fossil is not the animal. The fossil is not the bones of the animal. The fossil is the stone's memory of the bones of the animal. And that's a poetry older than words."

Using my trans daughter's preferred pronouns is a way to tell her I love her every time I speak to her and a pronoun slips in, it happens so often, now I get to shower her with "I love you", how do some parents "grieve" this, I don't understand.

Thinking about how Republicans are all fired up about how history makes them feel bad so we shouldn't teach it, isn't this the party that likes to tell women that they are responsible for all sin? I still remember the massive guilt that caused in me as a child.

“Do not be daunted by the enormity of the world's grief. Do justly, now. Love mercy, now. Walk humbly, now. You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to abandon it.” - Rabbi Tarfon

Watching old Columbo episodes, haven't seen it since I was a teen, and now I know where my habit of whistling "This old man" when I'm walking and thinking of stuff comes from. It's wild the random influences we pick up in our lives.

A kit to make a fruit battery is coming in the mail, and I'm oddly excited for a grown up.

Being politically active with your dollars gets hard, trying to not feed the beast is growing more difficult. I like thrift stores because you don't support exploitation of resources or large corporations that way, but if it's Goodwill or Salvation Army, you're supporting exploitation of the homeless ("work therapy" where you work for them for a dollar an hour). But smaller thrift shops that support local charities are getting driven out of business by the exploitive ones. I need pants, dammit.
