I don't have a big issue with laws "inspired" by scriptures if they are laws we can *all* agree are good. We don't need religious leaders in charge of whole countries.

Flipside: faith/religion can sometimes *help* us to do the respecting nature, awe and wonder thing too. It has done that for me. We're none of us perfect, but when one group insists that they are the arbiters of goodness or morals as religions are often wont to do, we have a big problem.
