A thought came to me. With Elon there now, bringing his own army of engineers... Will you be safe from exposure if you were an anon account holder with reason to stay that way? I fear the answer is no. heads up and chat w your mouthpiece and nudge @EFF to jump in the fray to protect many who were safe under the old regime and now less so. Do you have a clue on this @Karoli

@steelhoof @Karoli I am wondering the same thing. I only deactivated my account there instead of deleting it. I’m thinking my info is still available to those thieving crooks if they want it so maybe I should just delete it. Does anybody have any confirmed thoughts on this?

@EmRey @Karoli

I saw a post on locking down your twitter, probably a decent idea.

What I'm worried about is equivalent to the dude in the Musky regime that now knows details on every battered women's shelter and every 😩 woman that passed though the underground railway up to her current identity and residence and anyone that helped them in any way. The guy then sends that set of deets to anyone that asks

@EmRey delete your tweets. There are services you can use to do it. But don’t let squatters take your name.

@Karoli well, I went in to Twitter and tried to do anything like deleting my tweets, but I just got a message that I had deactivated my account, which is true, and all my messages will be deleted in 30 days. Apparently I can’t do anything else unless I reactivate the account, which I don’t wanna do at this point. I’m just crossing my fingers that my stuff doesn’t get ripped off and distributed across the evil net. 🙄

@EmRey there are services which will delete all your tweets. Just set your account to private and leave it there. Don’t deactivate it.

@Karoli @EmRey

Funfact - you CANNOT delete tweets or DM's from Twitter, you can only hide them from yourself. They still have everything. That's why when you try to delete a DM it says 'delete for you'.

And you can't 'delete' your account either, you can only 'deactivate' it. - ir's still there for them.

@th3j35t3r I think this is why when the time comes, I will just delete the login from my devices and forget it exists.

There will be a record of my activity to that point, and a clear description of why it ended. I think that history might prove useful in the future. @Karoli @EmRey

@th3j35t3r @Karoli @EmRey Betting most people have sent messages they felt like they would give anything to take back.

But seeing someone actually try it, wild.

@th3j35t3r @Karoli @EmRey The fact that this sort of information isn't widely known is pretty frightening and sickening, especially in light of the new owner & his ties with people from foreign governments. :/

And people think *you* are the bad guy, even though you're the complete opposite in what you do to protect our privacy and keep us safe. 😔

@th3j35t3r
Looks like getting oneself permabanned is an advantage in more ways than I thought.

@Karoli @EmRey

@stueytheround @Karoli @EmRey

That won't help either bud.

Twitter does not believe in 'the right to be forgotten' principle. Like most sites that rely on ad revenue - your data is their product.

In contrast to...

@th3j35t3r I get that.
Bloody annoying but it is what it is. The permaban just removed the temptation to go back 😁
I was an asshole over there anyway! 🤣

@Karoli @EmRey

@th3j35t3r @Karoli @EmRey

Just always figured DM’s were set like a mail server. Shitz

@th3j35t3r @Karoli @EmRey
Thank you. That's what I thought. I merely deactivated my account. I don't put personal info on social media, so I'm not worried about it.

@IrisDallen @th3j35t3r @Karoli I never knowingly put personal information on social media, but on the bird I have been known to assign certain orange entities and their & scummy minions not too flattering monikers. If there is an orange enemy list, I’m probably on it.😳

@th3j35t3r @Karoli @EmRey so you may as well leave it. Your words are out there, they matter.

@foxtrax1 @th3j35t3r @EmRey yep, that’s why I don’t agree with deleting all the tweets. They’re out there, let them stay.

@th3j35t3r Hi J. While I'm not "entirely dim-witted" (ref "Time Bandits") I admit to being mostly a point and click person. :/ My learning curve can vary wildly.

Also just discovered that my email for signing up here is glitching after I tried emailing support here to verify who I am and also to ask if it's possible to change my name eventually or sooner.

Going to keep working (pointing / clicking) on my email to see if I can unglitch it.

Meanwhile thanks much for the info on twtr DMs.

@th3j35t3r @Karoli @EmRey

Another misconception is that users on FB/Meta can revoke FB’s rights to your photos and posts. I’ll see friends post some legalese about revoking FB’s rights but I think we all know by now that users can’t undo the terms of service they agreed to when they signed up.

@th3j35t3r Please help! I can’t figure out why, after writing a post and then pressing “POST,” all seems well, until I write another post and press POST. What Happens then is, I get a message that says if I send the most recent post it all overwrite the previous one. This happens almost every single time. What am I doing wrong?

@EmRey Refresh the page or if you are on the app close it and re-open it. 👍

@EmRey @th3j35t3r

Just hit Cancel and start the process over...Press post hard. Sometimes when they're working on the site little glitches like that happen...

@th3j35t3r @Karoli Yes, & this is super scary to me.I deactivated my acct but evidently after 30 days everything will be permanently gone. So they say. But even if true, 30 days is a super long time for dishonest criminal crackpots to screw with my life.I am actually nervous about it all.😳

@th3j35t3r @Karoli @EmRey I kept on saying, this is the scary part of DMs… and the IP and other info ppl share thinking DM’s are “private”…

@th3j35t3r @Karoli @EmRey I mean... They say anything posted on the Internet is forever.

@th3j35t3r @Karoli @EmRey

So few users of Twit are aware of this
Ppl who don’t read a platform’s TOS when they sign up … 🙄 How could you not? 🙄

Something Something “who needs directions?”

🤦‍♀️ Not exclusive to the males of our species 🤦‍♀️

@Ten8cious @EmRey no, I can’t leave entirely because my job requires some presence. But my social interactions don’t have to remain there

@Karoli @EmRey Agree I don’t think it’s possible to leave there entirely. But I feel deleted the app from one of my devices

@steelhoof I think it’s certainly possible but there’s not too much that can realistically be done. This is the danger of one man owning the whole thing.

@Karoli Peace to you. You have been a wonderful person to follow over these many years.

I hope sanity takes the lead for your sake and all those other fine folk that fight disinformation and educate the masses
