Once you get everything transferred, it may be worth reinstalling the OS on the laptop (a complete install, not a refresh or update, let it reformat and erase everything). I've found they work much better after a fresh install.

I switched over to Linux Mint (LMDE) a few months ago and have no intention of ever going back. I'm no coder/programmer, so an OS where I don't need to be was one of the criteria I had.
