Real talk: Lying to my children is a bigger part of parenting than I ever expected it to be.

Today, on Adventures in Parenting:

2-month-old, after crying for an hour, finally lets me put her down in the bassinet.

2-year-old, sensing an opportunity, decides to "make her breakfast" with her toy kitchen, which has metal pans. Her vigorous "stirring" is essentially the same as playing a cowbell bedside.

Before I can stop her, 2-month-old awakens, wailing. 2-year-old gasps, points to her, and innocently informs me that "baby's fussing."

9 hours til bedtime. Send coffee.

Does a good detective story allow the reader to solve the puzzle before the author tells it to you? Or does it keep them in the dark until it's time to solve the case? I've always imagined the former would be the best, but in reviewing the famous detective stories of our day, it seems the latter was more commonly employed. Sherlock Holmes, for example, always seem to hold some key detail back until the very end. New to the genre, thoughts?

Booped my daughter on the nose. She giggled, then jammed her finger into my eye. Time to invest in video games and get her hand-eye coordination bulked up.

Just finished our annual rewatch of the Grinch ('60s classic animated version, of course). I've seen it a hundred times and only today realized it was a Chuck Jones piece. No wonder it's timeless; that roadrunner/coyote energy runs through its veins! #merrychristmas

Fun world cup final! As a grassroots referee, I love these matches no matter who wins. Educational. There was a lot of fouling and diving here, IMO. I would have issued more cards earlier for flopping, I think, but it is what it is. Wonder if we're going to see a rule change regarding players running out of touch on breakaways, though. Saw a lot of that. Artificially expands field, and the rules as written are you can't leave the field of play without permission. Ponderables! #worldcup2022
