It's 2030, and digital wallets have replaced every card in our purses and pockets https://www.zdnet.com/finance/its-2030-and-digital-wallets-have-replaced-every-card-in-our-purses-and-pockets/ by @sjvn
Microsoft joins the OpenWallet Foundation as we step into a future where everything is on our digital wallets and not in leather ones.
Old sci fi shows and books thought 2023 was going to be waaaay more advanced/apocalyptic than reality. We're not very good at predicting our speed of change.
@Agatha @thedisasterautist The delta on the acceptance rate of eWallets is crazy high. I'd not believed it myself until I saw the data. 2030 is pessimistic.
Among which demographic(s)?
@Agatha @thedisasterautist The younger you are, the more likely you are to adopt it, but it's not just Generation Z
Sometimes because what's new appeals to them. Sometimes because they're inexperienced and don't have the sense to wait and see if it's actually trustworthy.
I'm of the mid-range age years - young enough to love some change, but old enough to know just because it's new doesn't mean it's good.
@thedisasterautist I'd thought so too, but the stats stay otherwise. Only an eighth of the population is against it. Me? I always get paper tickets along with my hone tickets when I fly.
@sjvn @thedisasterautist I'd like to carry my driver's license and health insurance card in my watch (like my credit card) when I go out for a run.
@sjvn What happens to all the people who don't have or cannot afford smart phones?
@scottlink They'll still be using cards. I'll add, though, that I'm beginning to see businesses that won't take cash. See: https://www.aarp.org/money/budgeting-saving/info-2023/no-cash-accepted-trend.html
@sjvn My favorite donut place will give a discount if cash is used.
@sjvn
That was like 2009 in South Korea.
@sjvn: That's gonna be a hard sell for a fair swath of the US population.
