#CoSoHousePlants My SO and I have managed to keep these plants alive for almost five years and three moves. I need to report them in larger pots? And if so can anyone help with suggestions? I don't even know where to begin. The big one in white pot is the highest priority if you can't tell. #CoSoQuestions
@annamousse @scottyorange @yogapaddlerun This is good advice. When potting up don't go much bigger than an inch or two. Too much space can end up with too much soil moisture which means root rot and that's bad. I also agree with not re-potting in the winter months. Plants get stressed when repotted and the lack of sunlight hours in the winter can make it harder for them to "catch up".
@Halcyon @annamousse @yogapaddlerun @JoyfullyDazed Thanks for all your advice!
@scottyorange @Halcyon @annamousse @JoyfullyDazed All good advice. My only add is choice of potting mix should be tailored to plant needs. I usually stay away from ‘moisture smart’ type mixes and add extra perlite.
@scottyorange Measure pot diameter, find one larger that will fit on stand. Try to find one that doesn't taper to the bottom. Use a sharp knife to loosen plant, root prune ( judiciously shave the root ball ) Repot in good potting soil.
@scottyorange Echo the wait for spring. And I’ve often kept plants in the same pot by “root pruning”, slicing off the outer layer of compacted roots, and adding new soil all around (poking it in with a narrow stick) when you put it back into the same pot.
I buy potting soil from Lowe's and new pots that are the size I need. When I repot, I put down a lot of newspaper and start playing in the dirt...lol
I gently turn the plant upside down using my hand to support the plant as I slowly wiggle it out of the old pot, then transfer it to the new pot lined with soil. Hold the plant in place as you scoop new soil in and around the plant until the pot is full.
It's pretty easy. 😊
Great description. I would also loosen roots that may be bound up from too small of pots. Cut away any dead.
It's best to look them each up individually.
Plants tend to grow to the size of pot given but never go up much at once. Also some prefer to be root bound, just like certain ones have very different water requirements, and light tolerance. I try to top off with a bit of fresh soil during winter, then do a full repot in spring which includes trimming some roots on certain varieties (but not a lot). Good luck. 😉

are you in the northern hemisphere? you really shouldn't repot until spring if you are.
if you HAVE to, you put them in the next larger size,
let's see if @yogapaddlerun has any tips.
