A few years ago, I would have been calling nearly every single one of you disgusting communists who want to destroy America.
People can change.
People do change.
And I think about this every time I get yelled at by Dad. If insults and arguments and shouting and heated angry words and hot tempered emotions are the only things stopping me from trying to save my family from MAGA, what kind of person would that make me?
We either stand for something or sit for nothing, even if it's our family.
One of the most important things I've learned from personal experience:
If you want to save people from a cult, you don't accuse them of the same crimes as the cult leaders.
You first understand how they are being victimized, you treat them as people, you connect with their humanity, and then and only then can you have any hope of saving them from the cult.
Remember, they have been told by people they trust YOU are the enemy. If you go in with guns blazing, you're just proving the point.
When you declare that "all Republicans are fascists" or lean heavily on other divisive political stereotypes, you are directly helping the fascists who leverage division to achieve their ends.
You're erasing the humanity from the evil ideas that they suggest, while substantially over-inflating their numbers. You're turning what would be an 80/20 issue into a 50/50 issue.
Maybe knock that shit off. It is *insanely* counterproductive.
Omg. What a day. I'm exhausted and tired.๐ญ
This afternoon, I was helping put up rock wall for a small flower garden. I enjoy the work but he doesn't speak much of any English and his wife usually does all the translating and direction, but she had a family thing to do and ran off.
So me and this guy are trying to communicate like exaggerating mimes to figure out what I needed to do.
If you had saw two of us you'd think we were two raving lunatics in a field arguing with rocks. ๐
Time to go back to work, CoSo!
We'll meet again, soon! ๐
It's break time, CoSo! ๐
This is my last week of work exchange in Germany and I have mixed feelings.
Do I stay in Germany for an extra week after this and explore the city/night life, which I haven't had any time to do, or do I leave for Luxembourg where I've never been before?
I can't decide, so it's up to you now. ๐
Friends...
There was a show made in Canada a few years back called The Red Green Show. If you've heard of it, great. If you've not, it is good clean comedy. I grew up watching it. It lasted for 300 episodes.
It is also all available by Steve Smith, the comedian who plays Red Green, on youtube.
The first episode

What an amazing song about how, maybe, many of us feel!
It's almost midnight. ๐ฑ
What the..... ๐ ๐ญ
Thanks, CoSo! ๐
It's almost midnight, and I have a ton of odd jobs to do tomorrow!
So, my last song/post for the night!
Goodnight, beautiful souls!
Remember, to let love win.....
@quinnsentialOne I'm really glad to hear you share that there are similar opinions, AND misconceptions on BOTH sides of that particular (and very personal) issue. The data shows, strongly, that most Americans agree on the basics. This honestly shouldn't be a contentious issue, but it has such a way of energizing voters, that they will continue to use it politically rather that letting the people have the legislation we actually want and agree on.
But if you could actually sit down and talk with all my family. With the exception of a few, they all believe abortion is okay for rape, incest, or if you are in a situation where you can't have a child.
There's fringe ones who are all no abortions ever, but they are not many.
And surprisingly enough, they don't ever fight each other on that difference of that either, because they are Republicans.
But they all believe Democrats want to abort fully grown babies.
The propaganda is strong.
I know this might be hard to understand:
But a lot of us Republicans (or ex-Republican in my case) were lied to, and are still being lied to, by our leaders.
If anything, Republicans are way way way too trusting of their own. Republicans trust Republicans without question. We didn't question our own. We didn't critique our own.
It's still happening.
My Republican family believes babies are aborted after being born, they are told so by Republican leaders. That's why they want abortion bans.
Fundamentalism starts with a righteous idea but advances it with a closed fist rather than an open hand.
It doesn't heal. It fractures.
fundamentalismโfor all of its punitive powerโsimply cannot compete with grace in the contest for the human heart.
