@quinnsentialOne @desbearado @MindfulWilliam I've used this graphic posted here recently by @voltronic to help evaluate news sources for years. The higher up the pyramid, the more likely info is to be original reporting & fact based. Derivative/opinion is lower and you can see which way the bias goes. Sometimes I check opposite side sources on a story to see which seems to make more sense.
@quinnsentialOne - my partner and I often bring up how when we were teens in the 70s, there were quite a few students, boys usually, who had a gun rack in the back window of their truck, which may or may not have been locked, and it was NEVER even a thought that it would be brought out to settle a score. No one worried that it was there. It was for sport shooting, food, defense against wild animals. And those gun owners knew the OLD advice from the once-decent NRA.
Totally different world.
My Dad is the perfect example of why I support gun control now.
When I was a kid, growing up. My Dad had a lot of guns. I rarely ever saw them unless we were shooting, camping, or hunting.
As my family became more extreme, they were on display. They were carried in public, and even to rallies.
My Dad used to have serious respect for the gun and what it is. Now he wields them like toys for show.
That terrifies me.
He shouldn't have them, period.
Seeing posts about guns. I mentioned that my Dad taught me how to shoot. And there were a lot of guns around when I grew up.
I love guns, love to shoot, own several, and a big supporter of the 2nd Amendment. It gives us the right to protect the liberty of the free state.
But It doesn't give us the right to to terrorize our neighbors, or shoot our neighbor's kids.
People have forgotten how to respect the gun, and it can't stay that way, so I support gun control with licensing and training.
I'm chilling and watching the feed and I'm seeing things about businesses that are bad to shop in and what not.
Can someone explain how you all maintain such social consciousness? How do you all keep up with what's happening? How do you verify its factual or not?
I have a hard time keeping up with events in my own life, let alone everywhere else.
How do you keep up with it all?
I feel I'm not really socially conscious about things, but I'd like to do better.
What a day!
I woke up to a giant spider in my sink. 😨 😱
I had to change oil on a tractor that was probably older than my Dad. 😂 🚜
Then my sister tells me an ex misses me and still loves me and wants to get back together and says I really really really really should. Settle down and have babies 😂 ⛔ 🤢 🤮
I so need a bath to wash away the physical and metaphorical grime. 🛀
People are missing the point about Musk on the Bird site. He's doing *exactly* what he and his backers intended to do. Wreck a place where ordinary people could share information, speak truth to power and get information straight from journalists, scientists, writers, artists and people in power. The bird site was a danger to thin-skinned billionaires, autocrats, oligarchs and others and so had to be destroyed. He was just the willing patsy
We’ve been through things this year. In fact, let’s be honest with ourselves. When haven’t we been through tough times? We’ve never given up or given in. Let’s be kind to ourselves this Holiday Season. Being kind to ourselves doesn’t mean that we’re forgetting who and what we’ve lost. We’re choosing to focus on the fact that we’re alive and kicking. We’re thankful to still be alive and living our best lives. Reach out and touch some connections that we’ve lost. #OneLove #HopeIsLife
I'm glad I came here, because I think I'm helping some people understand that because, I know some of you feel like that you've lost family to the current Republican/MAGA machine.
I hope to show people the other side.
How I got in.
How I got out.
And how there is hope for your "lost" friends and family too.
And maybe there's some Republicans or MAGA quietly listening to what I'm saying and recognizing they have experienced what I have, but they can't yet say it out loud.
The best thing to do to is to turn off tracking and also to use a browser that doesn't track you. I use brave browser and have all my Google accounts set to 'do not track' (along with other measures).
There are ways around not being in an echo chamber, but most people don't bother with it, don't know about it, or enjoy the convenience.
I wonder if that's why so many old people get stuck in the algorithm dance? They're less technologically inclined...
If you want to save the world, stop the division, stopping the grifters won't stop it.
You have to go after the corporations. Meta. Google. Apple. All of them, make these algorithms illegal. Ban them. Stop them.
The evil isn't coming from the other side, it's coming from where you are not looking.
The question is, what do we do about it? How do we explain it to people like my parents who are barely capable of using Facebook and email?
What do we do about it?
