@kel It is, though I'd suggest that when the author openly claims that 90% of their fans support their bigotted views, it becomes harder to do so as far as any outside observer can tell, and certainly if they see support of their work as being equal to support of their views.
@Nimthiriel @kel
I waited over a decade for it to be my turn to name a dog just so I could name him after Neville Longbottom. In that time, I learned that the author was a POS. In April 2021 I literally found a Lhasa Apso in the street. Meet Neville - with a muddy beard, no less
@Nimthiriel
Thank you. I really struggled with naming him. We don't have human children, so our rescued cats and dogs are our everything. And we take turns naming new adoptees. I had to wait until we rescued a male dog and it was my turn to name. Gave me time to really think about author v. character. FWIW, everyone I know who appreciates the work, despises the author. Maybe I am lucky in my circles, but I see no mass support for Rowling ('s bigotry)
@kel @publickovacs I'm not saying it's not possible, merely noting that she's muddied the waters by claiming that enjoying her work suggests supporting her views. People are free to enjoy whatever they like, but I think these kinds of situations are important to discuss precisely because of that nuance which exists.
@Nimthiriel Frankly, I don't give a sh*t what she says. @publickovacs
@kel @publickovacs Fair enough :)
@kel @publickovacs @Nimthiriel , the stories were enjoyable. The author gets no more of my time or resources.
@publickovacs The stories were brilliant. The author is garbage, hiding behind her works to make excuses for her hate. I can appreciate the former while reviling the latter.
Nuance. @Nimthiriel
