The problem is the same one as always: Dems whine, can't unite around any issue, don't have the guts for ugliness. Reps are a masterclass in ruthlessness and will to power. So we hold our noses and vote like hell for unfocused whiners. Splendid.

@publickovacs We also don't have the same amount of $ or media behind us.

@publickovacs
We keep hoping that we can raise them to our level of discourse, only to realize that's impossible and the only way to keep them from destroying the country is to sink to their level of ignorance and violence.
It's a lose-lose situation.

@Jeber
Agreed. And it is that because we define ourselves through them. Meanwhile, they barrel towards their goals as if we don't exist. *That* is worth taking note of

@publickovacs Its wild seeing politicians going to such insane lengths to carry out their voters wishes. We usually get "sorry, maybe next time" and that it's wise and prudent to accept that.

@JLong
I think that is trickle down at work: petulant narcissist Cheetofuck as Pres for four years enabled a lot of petulance and narcissism among voter base too. And those folks need pandering to

@publickovacs Agreed. The biggest trick they ever pulled was convincing nearly everybody the fight is left vs right and not top vs bottom.

@JLong
Effing Marx called it šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø That is hard for me because I grew up under state socialism and its last gasp in Hungary

@publickovacs Was it pretty rough? I visited Hungary in 93' and loved it but i was 20 and things like that weren't on my radar at all.

@JLong
We seem to be of similar ages. Born in 70s, coming to awareness in 80s. My parents grew up in 50s. Compared to their experience, mine was fine. But I distinctly remember being about 4, seeing Kadar on black and white TV and already knowing two things: 1. He was lying 2. You were not allowed to say he was lying, outside of home

@JLong
Early 90s were an intoxicating time right after the fall of communism, the first free elections in H in many decades, a time of hope and potential. H had a good run from them till about 2010. Then it went in the fascist crapper where it currently resides

@publickovacs Sorry to hear that. The vibe there was pretty magical. It was like the Russians left just before we got there and people were glowing. I remember seeing Russian trucks left behind with flat tires, and they had just started changing the street names back to their original Hungarian. Great memories.

@publickovacs
Well put
Dems also waste safe seats by not using them to push the Overton window on policy

@BrentSullivan
Exactly. Because if they did, they would have codified into law a few years back

@publickovacs
Sometimes it feels like they're just landing the fascist plane
