Looking and listening to Musk how do you think it formed his worldview?
Something that’s been on my mind recently and I’ve mentioned these memories before but in the context of Musk I do think it bears repeating.
1987. Not that long ago right? Now I was about to hit my teens. I’m not much younger than Elon. Moved to South Africa. He lived in Pretoria, me Jo’burg.
We arrived. Within a couple of weeks we had our own maid. If you didn’t take a maid in people would be at your door every day begging you to give them a job. A maid was paid peanuts.
Daughter chatting to me on the way home about the state of it all. “I have the best parents out of all my friends. You aren’t racist, you aren’t homophobic, you respect me and you don’t like Trump.”
Warmed my heart and made me sad at the same time. These shouldn’t be stand out features of being a person. We then discussed how she needed to understand that these are minority views in the wider world. We do not live in a liberal world so as soon as you can exercise your right to vote, you do”
