I don’t have much pity for Politicians but there’s a job I’d really hate to be doing right now;

A decision on a new US ambassador is likely to be taken within days, with David Miliband, Peter Mandelson and Cathy Ashton all on the shortlist, the Guardian understands.

@th3j35t3r look at that fucking “family photo” right? He’s a kingmaker

Now I don’t know him but I know plenty like him. I can only judge on words and actions.

The words so far terrify me. But I’m OK. I’m a white man living far away from it all.

So yeah, I just think about this when I think about how he’s now the richest man in the world with the ear of the most powerful man in the world.

You get on a bus. A white bus. To a school. A white school. You were told blatant lies. You had to do cadets. Preparing for National Service.

I’d say that played a part in Musk leaving at 18. Just a guess though.

The 1980s

Musks experience for his whole childhood life right?

One of white supremacy. To me it was jarring and an experience that helped form me positively.

Looking and listening to Musk how do you think it formed his worldview?

Something that’s been on my mind recently and I’ve mentioned these memories before but in the context of Musk I do think it bears repeating.

1987. Not that long ago right? Now I was about to hit my teens. I’m not much younger than Elon. Moved to South Africa. He lived in Pretoria, me Jo’burg.

We arrived. Within a couple of weeks we had our own maid. If you didn’t take a maid in people would be at your door every day begging you to give them a job. A maid was paid peanuts.

@GinaE1973 and yes I was taught these things with a straight face.

@GinaE1973

Let’s see

When Dutch farmers arrived in South Africa they trekked to an area that had absolutely no Natives in it.

There were hardly any Natives in America/Australia/New Zealand either

The English brought God and civilisation to the Irish and pretty much everywhere they went. We owe them.

Just the truth I guess.

@DavidSalo We just had a big talk and I told daughter it’s a fine line she needs to walk. It’s not cowardice but realise that most people are not like you. Speak out but not at the expense of your own safety. Make good friends and stick together. Be careful of thinking because everyone you follow online has your values that it’s like that IRL because it’s not.

@NorthernInvader I try and I think I’m doing well but is it really that hard? That’s what gets me. People man. She was telling me about other kids parents and well, grrrr. You know it but out of the mouths of babes and all that.

The worry the kids have. Brought up through a pandemic, into this. I dunno, on the whole I’m really not too fond of adults.

It’s an awful thing to have to discuss with a teenager. You just want them to think everything’s always ok and will always be ok. It’s not and it won’t. But that doesn’t mean you have to spend your days worrying about it. Life is still for living.

Daughter chatting to me on the way home about the state of it all. “I have the best parents out of all my friends. You aren’t racist, you aren’t homophobic, you respect me and you don’t like Trump.”

Warmed my heart and made me sad at the same time. These shouldn’t be stand out features of being a person. We then discussed how she needed to understand that these are minority views in the wider world. We do not live in a liberal world so as soon as you can exercise your right to vote, you do”

@th3j35t3r posting is hard, took me ages to figure it out

😂🤣 numpties

Musk already taking calls with the President to heads of state.

In yet another sign of Elon Musk’s clout with the second Trump administration, Axios reports that he was on the line when Donald Trump called Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy after his election win.

I think many people are unaware of a communities ability to perpetuate continual self harm to spite everyone else.

No matter how shit it gets they keep going.

Nearly 50 years on this planet and "my community" continues down this path.

A toxic culture is hard as fuck to shift is what I'm saying.

@phac3ti0us you won’t miss anything essential but going pro will help keep a great thing afloat. Please do if you can and welcome!

also - holy shit, the M4pro processor is fast as fuck.

Working on my laptop while setting up my new mac... moved the cursor from my laptop to the far side and all of a sudden I was controlling the mini.

Dragged a file from the mini and it just comes on across onto the laptop.

No idea how old that feature is but that's awesome.

Sometimes with Apple it really is a "zero setup, this just works"
