The Romans borrowed a lot of language, concepts, and religion from the Greeks, all while subjugating them and claiming they were a backwards people.

"The sun revolves around the Earth, as do the Moon, and the Four planets. We learned our astronomy from the Greeks, who were very poor scholars."

Grumble. Grumble. Eagerly awaiting something in the mail. Package was tracked leaving the transfer spot 40 miles from my post office at 2:32 a.m. Nothing else since then. โ˜น๏ธ

Don't forget.
Huge profits for the Bell System.
As it lowered operating cost by 40%, getting rid of tens of thousands of jobs.

The introduction of Touch-Tone telephones on November 18th, 1963, was a landmark event in the history of science and technology. It revolutionized communication, improved efficiency, and laid the groundwork for many of the automated services we rely on today.

@AskTheDevil Constantine was simultaneously the best and worst thing for Christianity. The persecution ended, but fusion with the state was deadly.

Native American Heritage Month

Honoring Wilma Mankiller

November 18th is the birthday of Wilma Mankiller (born 1945), the first woman elected Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. Mankiller was a renowned activist, community developer, and advocate for Native American rights. Her leadership and dedication to her people left a lasting legacy.

When my wife and I lived in St. Louis City in the first years of our marriage there was a couple across the apartment building courtyard from us.

The father drank all the time and kept telling his 5 year old boy that education was a waste of time. There were a younger girl and an infant too. I often wonder what happened to them. Those kids would all be in their 30s now.

Day 10: Vivian Maier

2. Thomas Nast

From the Bill of Rights Institute:

"Tweed feared Nastโ€™s cartoons to a much greater extent than newspaper articles, because many of his constituents were illiterate, and he even offered Nast a bribe to stop these public criticisms. Tweed was right to fear this criticism because Nastโ€™s cartoons helped lead to his downfall and arrest in 1876. Tweed died in jail in 1878, and Nast continued to draw for Harperโ€™s Weekly until 1886."

Absolute legend. No notes.

Oh come on. Does anyone believe this was an accident? He criticized the war in Ukraine. "Falling" out of a window is putin's response, it's not like it's the first time
