My mom always talked about staying with her grandma. That grandma would be 161 years old today. Her birthday. She's the one on the left. Mathilda Deterding Donjon (1862-1940) #Genealogy

@redsheri1 Good morning! That picture is well over 100 years old. She was unable to walk after 1915. That's the only picture we have that shows her standing.
@poemblaze thatβs amazing. My grandma lived into her 90βs got married at like thirteen amazing how resilient they were back then.π©βπ¦°
@redsheri1 Even in a wheelchair she did gardening. She had raised flower/vegetable beds. Squares of railroad ties filled in with soil.
@poemblaze thatβs awesome same my grandma and her hubby gardened with canes until their death. Unreal. I be lucky if I leave my bed at that age.
@redsheri1 My great uncle gardened up until his early 90s. Mom finally convinced him to stop sawing down trees alone in the woods when he was 90.

My maniac farmer grandaddy climbed 50-foot tall loblolly pine trees when he was 85 just to prove a point.
They were not small pine trees, they were the tall terrifying kind.
The point being, apparently, that he could climb pine trees.
@janallmac @redsheri1 The garden here was also very large. Not sure about acreage.
