My neighbor is tearing down a rather nice retaining wall on their lawn and I’m confused about who the teenager doing the work is. He doesn’t seem to be part of the family because the family has two toddlers, so I have no idea what is happening.

It’s almost like some random teenager is performing a very slow vandalism on their lawn and the homeowners have the memory of a goldfish as to what their lawn looks like.

Their water line also runs very closely through this retaining wall, so I’m fascinated with the teenager stabbing the ground repeatedly near the water line with a what I am going to call a long, sharp metal spear.

@EnochianEntropy Probing with a pointed metal spike is an industry recognised method of determining the location and more importantly the depth of utilities such as power and communications cables (directly buried or in conduit) and water or gas pipes. The point is sharp enough to pierce the ground but too blunt to pierce the detected object provided it’s not used with excessive force. It’s a surprisingly effective process.
