A simple but important message in this tune. I made it one of my alarm songs. 🎶💞🦋

I decided to read some romance this year. It's a genre I've read very little of, and liked less, but want to give a chance.

I was looking for options to read this month, as well as for Black history month, and stumbled across Indigo by Beverly Jenkins. It's about the people working the Underground Railroad. I'm about 20% in, and really enjoying it. The setting creates real tension that doesn't rely on people being stupid or miscommunication. And there are interesting historical details.

Were women pirates in the Golden Age of Piracy? You bet your cannonballs they were!

Although they were rare, it was not as uncommon as the old books and movies lead us to believe. Women worked every role on pirate ships, from deck hands to Captain. Some even commanded their own fleets.

While some did little to conceal their gender, such as Anne Bonny, others such as Mary Read preferred to pass themselves off as men.

I entered another Mark Tullius contest. Won the grand prize in the Ghostland contest which surprised me as I have never won ANYTHING. I don’t expect to win this one but hey, you don’t win if you don’t try.
