Were women pirates in the Golden Age of Piracy? You bet your cannonballs they were!

Although they were rare, it was not as uncommon as the old books and movies lead us to believe. Women worked every role on pirate ships, from deck hands to Captain. Some even commanded their own fleets.

While some did little to conceal their gender, such as Anne Bonny, others such as Mary Read preferred to pass themselves off as men.
