Authorities are suggesting homeowners, if able, shut off water & drain homes before the hard freeze to preserve plumbing & prevent low water pressure seen during previous freezes, which resulted in boil water notices.

We've been draining our home for every freeze since '19. We turn it on if it's warm. Bottled water for drinking & containers of water for flushing the toilets.

Test your shut off before you need it. If it cracks, you want time to repair.

Newsflash.

We're already in WW3.

It began when Putin became Russia's leader.

It's not a war of annihilation.

It's a secret war, fought all across the world.

Bombing the Houthis isn't going to cause a fucking nuclear exchange.

Bring it, I'm a Colorado native! ๐Ÿ˜Ž ๐Ÿ’ช

I've weathered many storms in this house. Still, I can't help the feeling I'm on a submarine that's about to go deep for a long time.

Can the hull take it? Should I broadcast my last known position?

Current position is sitting, heading quickly toward recumbent. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Multiple attacks on vessels followed, mostly without success, but many shipping companies nevertheless decided to bypass the Red Sea route and divert around South Africaโ€™s Cape of Good Hope, significantly adding to journey times and cost.

On 18 December the US announced the formation of Operation Prosperity Guardian in response to the Houthi attacks.

The US refrained from direct confrontation until 31 December, when US Navy helicopters fired on a group of small boats

The Houthis are backed by Iran as part of its longstanding hostility with Saudi Arabia and are supporting Hamas in the war in Gaza. Soon after the Hamas massacre on 7 October, the Houthi leader Abdul Malik Al-Houthi said his forces were โ€œready to move in the hundreds of thousands to join the Palestinian people and confront the enemyโ€.

Crazy to think how expensive tech used to be. My first computer was a Mac, it had a 25MHz processor and it cost me about $3K (not including the monitor!)

Then at this one company in AZ I worked our department got one of the first digital cameras. It was a Kodak DCS, I don't remember the model but the pics were grainy as hell so it was probably the 1.5 megapixel one. I think they paid like $12K for it. ๐Ÿ’ธ

This week's focus in class has been learning how to improvise, beginning with this piece by Sonn y Rollins.

I now have an ear worm, and found myself humming it at my Thursday night Dungeon's and Dragons game.

Yemen. Pretty much ignored for years in favor of sexier human suffering. Near or at the bottom of every global index of poverty and starvation.

Houthis are not Palestine supporters, they are the Iranian backed group that unseated the Yemeni government and it's been a proxy civil war since then with the people ground up in the middle.

They are the baddies, FFS. I don't like the expansion of hostilities, but the Houthis are not some noble cause to defend.
