Jonathan Greenblatt said that the brutal attack on Israel was materially equal to the attack on Hiroshima, and showed a lack of respect for others. It was an affront to the Japanese people. It did no service to Israel and antisemitism. Not to minimize the tragedy of this attack. I was in Scotland in 1958 and Ireland in 2017. I saw it was a job opportunity that ended that 50-year war that my uncle could never explain to me
@danielbsmith President Franklin Delano Roosevelt made one of those escalating moves in July 1940 when he cut off shipments of scrap iron, steel, and aviation fuel to Japan.
@normsmusic Dropping bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was terrible.
But...
It was an option to end the war quickly. 20,000 lives versus a much more costly ground war and invasion where the number of dead could be expected to rise to *many* times higher.
Which option would you pick? I consider it the least bad option among all of the other options which were much worse.
