RIght now, the "5000 words every European should know" include Thermodynamics, #Bulgaria, Sagrada Familia, Hitler and Algorithms.
What's missing? Please tell me. See how and why here: https://mfioretti.substack.com/p/5000-words-for-europe-again
Still too few entries about #ukraine #russia #Latvia #Estonia #Lithuania and all of Eastern #Europe in general in this list of "5000 concepts every European should know".
I cannot know which ones they should be. Please YOU submit them, & pls RT:

@EileenKCarpenter to complete my previous answer:
a BIG part of the problem is just that, the totally unfounded equation "internet & communication = smartphone and nothing else"
I discussed this issue here:
https://mfioretti.substack.com/p/honestly-the-problem-with-children
@EileenKCarpenter I wouldn't mind if payphones came back, but please note that they are not needed to for the objectively necessary service you mention. Parents with that need can give their kids ordinary cellphones. It's only smartphones = unrestrictable, 24/7 access to the whole internet that are the problem
Here are some of the last suggestions for my book project about "5K concepts that EVERY EUROPEAN should know":

Do you agree?
Pls read the proposal, let me know, and share it as much as you can. It would be wonderful to reach 5K entries before #EU2024 day!

Right. Parents need to turn the social pressure upside down, to this:

Something like that may be the only shock big enough to reset the madness, and start using #AI sensibly. See these posts of mine at https://mfioretti.substack.com/archive
I want 5000 words for #Europe, all in one place.
And wherever you live, whatever you think of the #EU, I want one of those words from YOU:

Q: "How can #Europe emulate #SiliconValley’s #startup success?"
Answer: the question is NOT "how". The question is "why do it, instead of doing something better?"

Read that about #India:

and now I'm wondering in how many other countries voting this year there is the same feeling. Thoughts?
@mfioretti RSS FTW! I'm sure that social media companies have evolved an RSS disincentive structure over the past 15 years as with anything else that can siphon attention or deflect profits.
@hallmarc you are of course correct. I myself wrote a tutorial around 2011 on how to read/write FB from the command line, with APIs that just one year later FB deactivated.
And of course it's not just Facebook, is every big "social media" around

I get so, so tired of how some people have a knee-jerk reaction about how the big #cloud companies "steal" #opensource software. No, no, they don't. They often help build it.
