@EileenKCarpenter I wouldn't mind if payphones came back, but please note that they are not needed to for the objectively necessary service you mention. Parents with that need can give their kids ordinary cellphones. It's only smartphones = unrestrictable, 24/7 access to the whole internet that are the problem

a BIG part of the problem is just that, the totally unfounded equation "internet & communication = smartphone and nothing else"

Unfortunately, it's not going to happen until schools bring back pay phones. Parents rely on the smart phones for kids to call to get picked up after activities.
