Went to a beginner's D&D meeting at the library. I think our ability to conjure fire was too effective.

Fire alarms went off halfway thru our initial game. We were on the 3rd floor and had to take the stairs. Stairwell is circular, with additional alarms, so the sound bounced and echoed and was beyond painful when walking past one of many additional alarms across the 3 stories. Some people covered both ears, but with my vertigo, I was holding on to the handrail for dear life. Excitement!

@BlueStateBabe Oh no! I hope everyone was all right, the fire department was able to pinpoint, everything was safe and everyone was deemed OK to go back to their gaming table...

@stratkitten

After 15-20 minutes, they sent us back.

Some people just wanted to leave when evacuation occurred, but the garage (under the library building) was also off limits, so everybody had to wait.

We got in about another half hour of learning/playing.

@BlueStateBabe Aw nertz...Hope you can get back together when things are less hectic!

@stratkitten Question: Is there a good source for used manuals? I was told that the 5th edition is $50 for the basic manual. And then there are all the other guides...OY!

@BlueStateBabe Oh goodness, I wish I had a less cliché answer for you than Ebay...

What you need to play Dungeons & Dragons: The essentials

One copy of the Dungeons & Dragons: 5th Edition basic rules (available for free from the D&D website)

One set of polyhedral dice (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20)
One character sheet (these are available for free from the D&D website)

One spell sheet (if you’re playing a spellcaster. Also available for free online)

@kismatt @scottyorange @BlueStateBabe Thanks for the starter advice for @BlueStateBabe! You wanna know a thing or two about guitars or tarot decks, I'm your gal, but detailed DnD advice, I dunno. A few of my older students are Dungeonmasters (and I know what those are) but when it comes to deets, you may as well be singing the chorus to MmmmmBop to me...

@BlueStateBabe @stratkitten @scottyorange yvw :D It's fun! I got into it at the start of the pandemic cuz we couldn't go anywhere, we still game every other week on roll20. A few of us watched Chris Pine's D&D movie a month or so ago and it was SO MUCH FUNNIER than it would have been if I didn't know the characters and te place names lolol

PS: I want a Hither Thither Staff. IYKYK
