@killingfloorman Not quite. For instance, with autism , the person has more neurons & synapses in their brain than ānormalā people. Itās as if the brain is evolving and trying to create new connections. š

@killingfloorman More. Iāve been in the ASD field since before it was a dx here in the states. 1977 was my 1st yr of working w/ severely autistic children & realized it was my calling. I never achieved the education I wanted but have kept up w/ research. Oh, and Iāve an adult autistic dtr of my own. We were told sheād never speak, really finish H. S., & never attend college. She achieved it all. šLanguage is still very much a challenge, but she does just fine. My spouse is on the spectrum, too.

@killingfloorman Try to think of it not as ācuring,ā but teaching to communicate. For every single sentient being, communication is paramount. Quite often, people with autism have a language processing disorder. A is going on 36 yo and still struggles with communication. If we canāt communicate with autistic ppl, we canāt help them understand our world. Read āThinking in Picturesā by Temple Grandin. Both husband & dtr are autistic.
