I was at Laguna Honda Hospital this weekend.
Spoke to staff and family members visiting.
I was stunned to hear so many people didn't know the govt is shutting down the facility and everyone needs to be out by mid-Sept. It's sad to deliver such terrible news to people.
We are up to 230 signatures on our petition!

Background: The Fed Gov't dept that manages Medicare/Medicaid (CMS) is forcing the relocation of 700 vulnerable residents at the largest skilled nursing facility in the country while it pursues recertification because of some minor violations.
We're asking Sec. of HHS Xavier Becerra to decouple relocation from recertification so that these people are not forced out.

We need to do this quickly. They've already relocated a 101 year old woman! There just aren't enough beds in SF Bay!

Morality informs the Law.
Yet, in a democracy, Spirituality cannot be allowed to inform the Law directly.

Time for a federal law requiring every father to financially support their genetically-linked children and the women that bore them.
I'll maintain that ignoring the integrity of the Means in order to achieve the Ends is a fundamental evil.
If your position is that a recently fertilized egg has an actual "soul" and is "alive", all further arguments are disregarded. This requires a religious belief system.
If your position is that a recently fertilized egg requires the support of a functional womb for a number of months before it can live on its own, and that there is no such thing as a "soul", then there is neither a "life" to be considered nor a spiritually relevant thing involved.
At the core of the debate about Roe v Wade is the definition of human life and if there is such thing as a soul.
Most people can see through a disingenuous person's argument.
But, many are also swayed by that person's rhetoric.
The author lacks integrity if the Means of the argument require ignoring the intent of the Ends. In this case, arguing that the Constitutional support of Roe v Wade is baseless (the Means) so that you can ensure the "life" and "soul" is protected (the Ends).
I should adjust that statement to read: "overtly conservative in their respective religion".
Has anyone ever encountered an anti-abortionist that wasn't also an overt "Christian".
Complex problems are rarely fixed with simple solutions.
Conservative activists have spent decades on this issue.
It may take decades of dedicated effort to have any effect.
