If young people could look into the future to see what eventually happens to their bodies after years of athletic pursuits, they wouldn’t play sports! I’ve had a knee replacement and am scheduled for a hip replacement, and my back goes out at least twice a year. But no. Being young means thinking it’ll never happen to you, right? And let’s face it, sports are fun. Getting old? Ha! That’ll be the day.

@Blueorchid520 My FB page is John DeBoer and my FB author page is John L. DeBoer’s novels.

@AskTheDevil Yeah, nature might step in, but as Billy Joel said, “Only the good die young.”

Trump has three ways to escape his legal peril: delay until he or an ally gets elected President and makes it go away; jury nullification; the Supreme Court overturning a conviction.

# politics Oh, and Republicans are claiming an unjust DOJ for the “lenient” penalty imposed on Hunter Biden - for two “crimes” that most legal experts say would normally not even be prosecuted - while Trump is being tried “unfairly” for mishandling classified documents. A crime for which a woman was just sentenced to 3 1/2 years. I hope voters will remember all this in Nov. 2024.

WTF? The right wing is blaming the submersible tragedy on wokeness. And Boebert and Taylor-Green are fighting over who would be the first to bring an impeach Joe Biden resolution to the floor of the House. And Adam Schiff was censored by the House because he had the temerity to try to bring Trump to account for the Zelensky phone call and instigating the Jan. 6 insurrection. Can it get any crazier? Yes! Stay tuned.

@johnldeboer According to Google
The cost to charter a private flight to/from Alaska starts at around $2,000 an hour* in a turboprop, $5,000 an hour* in a light jet, $7,000 an hour* in a midsize jet, and $10,000 an hour* or more for a long range jet or VIP airliner.

@johnldeboer A couple of years ago I got a quote from a charter jet company for a round-trip flight for eight from Delaware to SFO. We're not private-jet people; my mom refuses to go to commercial airports anymore and I wanted to bring her to California. The charter company gave me an estimate of $50k. We didn't make it past the quotation stage.

I’ve never flown in a private jet and am not a member of the NetJets set, so I’m curious. Any private jet flyers out there who can tell me how much a flight from D.C. to Alaska would cost?

Okay, I’ve commented recently about air fares and the fact that the only way I’d fly across country would be in First Class, despite the hefty premium. But get this: Justice Alito claimed that his private jet ride to Alaska, paid for by a Republican fat cat, cost less than a commercial flight would. Obviously, Alito does not ever fly commercial, or he’d know. The seat was vacant, he says, so he essentially got to ride for free. Yeah, that seat was vacant because it was reserved for him!

Typo alert: Giuliano should be Giuliani. Aargh!

@kel So, with respect, you’re saying that Republican criticism of Garland for not going after Hunter Biden and for charging Trump with classified documents violations is the same as my critique of Garland for his overly delayed action in looking at the insurrection plotters? Hunter Biden’s “crimes” surpasses Trump’s, Eastman’s, and Giuliano’s coup attempt? And Trump’s documents case is a paperwork error? You’re entitled to that opinion, but I can’t agree. I think we’re done here.

@kel I AM focusing on the criminals. That’s why I’m appalled Garland only focused on the foot soldiers of the insurrection rather than the plotters of same. All the key witnesses of Jan. 6 had not yet been interviewed by DOJ when the Committee found them.

@kel I don’t get your analogy. Garland’s inaction is a boon to the fascists. And, yes, I’m criticizing him for his delayed response. You wouldn’t see a Republican administration holding back. Bill Barr went out of his way to appease Trump, even traveling with the Special Prosecutor, Durham, to Italy in search of evidence of a fraudulent election.

I don’t think we’ll see Trump sitting down for an interview - even with Fox News! - without a supporting audience ever again. Which should let his lawyers catch a breath.
