@arthurpendragon Yes, you’re right. Her skill as a scholar is actually irrelevant, what with all the movies and TV shows referencing it, and the yearly reminders in the media, especially on the multiples-of-five years, like this year.

@MrGoat Well, whether she even went to school is actually beside the point. I don’t specifically remember learning about D-Day in class, but how can anyone who has a TV not know about that momentous day? It comes up every year, and there are countless movies that have at least a passing reference to it. So my wife and I could hardly believe her ignorance of that date in history.

Tonight, my wife and I went out to dinner. During the meal, the waitress came to check on us and asked how we were doing. My wife said we were talking about the D-Day commemoration we saw on TV earlier. The waitress looked confused. My wife said, “D-Day? June 6, 1944, Word War Two?” The waitress said, “I’m sorry, but I don’t know what that is.” She wasn’t a teenager or a bubblehead in her twenties, but a woman (she admitted) in her fifties.

How long ago did they stop teaching history in school?

@CinnamonGirlE @BlueMan2 I had a similar experience. During the Covid years, I wore masks, sanitized my hands after grocery shopping, stayed away from crowds, didn’t travel. During that time I didn’t have a single upper respiratory illness (cold/flu) when normally I would have at least two a year. Anecdotal, sure, but I noticed the change.

@rpardee I was a bit hyperbolic, but my point was that a MAGA jury wouldn’t need facts/evidence to convict, something Trump supporters are accusing the Manhattan jury of doing. Despite the fact there were Trump adherents in that jury. I predict, because it’s already been done, that cases against Democrats will be brought to districts with a history of favoring right-wing causes.

@rpardee If our history of racial injustice has taught us anything, it is that “facts” for a biased jury mean nothing. I fear that cases will be brought against Democrats in deep-red states, where all the prosecutor needs to show is that the defendant donated to Hillary Clinton, Obama, or Biden. And besides, just investigating Democrats will create a cloud of corruption involving them. Talk about weaponizing the Dept. of Justice!

@Redskye572 Scary thing is, he might only have to wait until November for him to find himself in exactly the right place!

Stephen Miller is exhorting Republican prosecutors across the country to get cracking and start prosecuting Democrats, in light of Trump’s conviction.

“Well, gee, Steve, we’re doing the best we can, but, you know, we kinda need facts to proceed.”

“No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.” H.L. Mencken

“Well, gee, everything was cheaper when Trump was president. He gets my vote. He’ll fix this Biden inflation.”

Really? Did you forget about the Covid pandemic? When our economy was on the brink of collapse? When the government had to step in with huge outlays of money to stem the disaster? Apparently so. Then who will you blame if Trump is elected and his promised policies make inflation worse?

Prominent Republicans keep repeating the talking point that DA Bragg promised to prosecute Trump during his election campaign, thus suggesting Bragg had an ulterior motive for bringing the case to indictment and then trial. Problem is, Bragg only said he would “follow the path” that his predecessor had started. Yes, he stated he had sued the Trump Organization and Administration several times, but he never said he was committed to prosecuting Trump after becoming the DA.

A man that constantly complains he’s being treated unfairly, moans incessantly about the corrupt system out to get him, would normally be thought of as a loser - hardly a strong leader. Will MAGA supporters ever get tired of his poor-me ranting and whining? So far, they seem to love it: “Let’s make the weak crybaby our President!”

After the guilty verdict, Lara Trump said, “This is a case about politics, pure and simple.” Right you are, Lara. It was your father-in-law’s attempt to illegally affect the 2016 presidential election that was the case against him. (Dirty) politics, pure and simple.

@AmserJ If they were smart, they should’ve gotten at least part of their fees up front!

Uh-oh. Trump’s lawyers better beware. Trump’s meandering, often times WTF rant today at Trump Tower included a few negative tidbits about the way his lawyers managed his defense. Could this be a clue they are about to be fired? And thus give Trump an excuse for stiffing them on their legal fees? Just wondering.

@tgraph52 Unless he’s incarcerated at the time. Very unlikely, but still.

Obviously, it’s all about the money. The playoff system in major pro sports is a joke, especially regarding the NBA, where 2/3 of the teams get into the post-season. It’s 50% for the NHL, 44% for the NFL, and “only” 40 % of MLB teams make it to the playoffs. C’mon. Playing hard all year should matter more.

“We’re looking at that,”” Trump said two days ago when asked about his stance on contraceptives. “We’ll have a policy on that very shortly.” Years after his promise of a health care plan layout to replace Obamacare, I’m still waiting for it. This latest statement is sure to follow the same path to nowhere, once reasonable consultants tell him it’s a loser.

Alito strikes again! What an idiot. Another insurrectionist flag at another of his homes documented. Can’t wait to hear what story he makes up about this one.

Really, Nikki? You’re going to vote for Trump? Okay, I can understand why a person like you could never vote for a Democrat. But vote for a man you thought so little of you persisted in running against him when everyone else had folded? Why not just stay home on Election Day and fade away? You must know that, like Pence, there’s no place for you at the Trump table.
