In other #CoSoTech news, a friend loaned me his "suzyqable" debugging cable so I could disable the firmware write protect on my 2017 Pixelbook.
Now to replace the firmware and install Linux in place of #ChromeOS!
(I've largely replaced the Pixelbook with a Framework Chromebook (which is fantastic!) so this will let me continue to get use out of the Pixelbook hardware for those times when I really need a bare-metal Linux environment.)
@john_b nice! I use Fedora on my Linux boxes. Just got used to it from it handling 64-bit the best back when that was new.
@john_b
Hmm, I am writing this on an older Asus 302c that will lose it's ChromeOs updates in June. I last used RPMs with RedHat...4.x? I imagine I can swap in a Linux distro on this machine sometime in the summer. Project for when I have time. :^)
@FireMonkey if/when you feel up for it, https://mrchromebox.tech/ has some handy scripts, firmwares, and instructions to help you give your Chromebook new purpose. 👍
And I found a great resource tweaking the #Fedora experience to be a bit smoother on a #Pixelbook:
