According to the C.D.C.’s new description of masks, loosely woven cloth products provide the least protection and layered finely woven products offer more. Well-fitting disposable surgical masks and KN95s are more protective than all cloth masks,

Right now, while the fires are destroying so much in Colorado, it feels feeble to say, “I’m paying attention.”

For the folks closely affected by the Boulder fires, I see you. I see your fear, worry, and dismay at the massive scope of harm and loss. I see your heartache for friends and colleagues who have lost everything.

I for one am super glad that James Webb didn't go boom. Here's hoping the rest of its Rube Goldberg mechanisms perform as expected, so that we can finally discover that we aren't alone in the universe.

Maybe we'll treat each other a lot better after that. Here's hoping, anyways.
