The Marvels: β€œIt's a welcome surprise, especially for a film that has been relentlessly attacked online prior to release, and for a cinematic universe that has been groaning under the weight of its own lore.”

The fact it was attacked prior to release is a good indication it had nothing to do with it being a good film or not, but who was about. No surprise there.

Stories about strong women are FREQUENTLY pilloried by men. Look at the fuss over Barbie (where is WW III?)

According to the right-wing commentators, Barbie was going to start WW III and now… nothing.

Almost as it was a bunch of misogynistic dolts going on about a movie they have never seen.

I suspect the same is true about The Marvels considering it was pilloried BEFORE it was released.

This is yet another attempt to force studios into not releasing movies starring women. Oh, sure, they can be in it, but only as a half-naked co-star. Not as the leading person.

@feloneouscat I remember how offended all the incels were over Mad Max Fury Road, which I thought was absolutely terrific. They never understood that the MM movies are not about him. He's just the vehicle by which we enter the story of the other characters. That's why he never changes.
