Whatcha reading this weekend? I'm working my way through Echoes of Honor by David Weber.
Anyone reading any of my books? I'd love to hear if you are. #cosobooks #opencarrybooks
@HawkHorton @ianthealy Super, and greatly appreciated!
@ianthealy I've got your Airship Lies in my Kindle queue. Also reading Garry Kasparov's Winter is Coming; Nancy Kress' Beggars Ride; Alexander McCall Smith's The Minor Adjustment Beauty Salon; James Michener's Poland; and an unpublished manuscript by my distant cousin, one of the best horror novels I've ever seen. No wonder it's always so hard for me to finish things.
@ianthealy Iβm about to start a friendβs manuscript for her very first novel. Iβm honored but also super nervous. If I like it, easy. But what if I donβt like it? She says she wants honest feedback.
@WendyForbes Nobody ever became a better writer by having sunshine blown up their ass. Be honest. If it is really bad, you can say you don't think it's ready and you're not the right person to read it. If it needs work, be honest about what it needs and why. Either she'll take it as a personal attack or as useful constructive criticism. Unfortunately, first novelists often erroneously believe they are shitting diamonds onto the page.
@WendyForbes (And so do eighth novelists and so do thirtieth novelists. The difference is, experienced writers SHOULD take editing and criticism better because they know the process)
@ianthealy thank you! I really appreciate the advice. Iβve been putting off opening it but this helps very much.
@ianthealy I'm reading Odin's Tillit by our own @EdgeOErin βοΈ
