just came across something relevant in Jung, using the sea journey archetype to describe the dissociative experience in alchemy, i.e., psychology: its dangers and its transformative power.

These archetypes can be somewhat useful. The problem is when people take them literally.

yes, identifying with archetypes is a road to insanity. Jung talks about that with reference to Nietzsche.

the unconscious is like the ocean, beautiful, full of wonderful wildlife, freeing, etc, but dangerous too. one can drown.

still people insist on surfing🤣
