GOP claims US is based on Christianity.

The U.S. a Christian Nation? Not According to the Founders!

"America’s fourth President, James Madison was raised an Anglican and was a cousin of Virginia’s Episcopal bishop. But he was a fierce proponent of church-state separation and fathered the Bill of Rights, whose opening words outlawed government “establishment of religion” and any prohibition of “the free exercise thereof.” Both Congress and all the states agreed."

@cmskiera i realize that. they're vaccinated against it.

@holon42 The founders were all a mixed bag. Even if you go back to earliest colonies. Plymouth had a religious basis, but Jamestown didn't. There have been devout and rebels all along. And Jesus himself said his kingdom was not of this earth. This earth isn't where my hope is. I fall far short of it, but loving my neighbor as myself is the goal, not shouting at people.

@holon42 The founders' religious faith would not be considered Christian by today's GOP.
Thomas Jefferson rewrote the New Testament and took out the parts he didn't like. John Adams was Unitarian but did not believe in the trinity or the deity of Christ.
GOP wants a Taliban style dictatorship; where they can use religion to manipulate their voters.
