Mizuna! Mibuna!

Testing and tasting new winter greens. Both are brassicas. I can’t really judge their flavor yet b/c we haven’t had a frost yet, and that will change them (for the better.) Right now they’re definitely mustardy.

Adding these to my lunch salad of salt-pickled peppers and tomatoes.

These tests were primarily conducted on crops, but there was a lack of consideration for the long-term effects on the local population or the environment.

The idea that compassion could arise from the idea of the individual as a being intrinsically related to all other beings in the universe, or that compassion could be the foundation of ethical judgments, was so alien to Western thought that when Westerners encountered societies who believed these things they completely missed (and often still miss) the connections between them.

Spanish Moss on Live Oak
Despite its name, Spanish moss is not a moss but a bromeliad—a perennial herb in the pineapple family.
