4 Mistakes That Could Ruin Your Green Bean Casserole
As far as @bitranch is concerned, "making one" is the first mistake.

1. Caramelize onions with a little garlic
2. Blanch green beans, like just barely
3. Serve the beans with onions on top, optionally dust with finely grated reggiano or Parmesan
4. Black pepper to taste

My mom used to make hers with some stuffing in it... and the green beans were my least favorite part.

(I like green beans, just not in a casserole.)

Now I'm thinking that a mushroom casserole might be good. I always like to have some mushroom dish on the table for Thanksgiving. Maybe a "not-stuffed" mushroom casserole, where the stuffing ingredients are a layer, topped with crispy breadcrumbs.

Lay off the cilantro.
Cook the casserole long enough so it is soft enough that you can strain it through your teeth.
Light on the garlic.
