@Bliss @porkbonekid @HealingHobbit - Waitwhat, you worked on the trial?
Depp was the crazy one, wasn't he. Imagine having that much power in Hollywood.
@Bliss @porkbonekid @HealingHobbit - Lol, I would have rather watched a MyPillow infomercial than the Depp/Heard trial, honestly.
@Lemon405 @voltronic - All the response to trolls was really unnatural. I think people made it too big a part of their online presence, like all some accounts ever did was hurl insults at MAGA figures in order to get Likes and retweets and stay in good standing with their buddies. It really put the kibosh on mature debate. Pardon my cynicism but that's my take.
@porkbonekid - I never took sides on that one. We'll never know the whole truth, but one thing that stood out was all the misogyny directed at Amber Heard. Pretty unsightly and completely oblivious to the male-centric power dynamic. Never understood the obsession with it really.
@voltronic - Somewhere along the line, people forgot the golden rule of trolling: ignore them. There are/were way too many people on Twitter and elsewhere wasting their breath yelling at them. Especially with Trump.
@JolieSaboteuse - My favorite was when Tomi Lahren said "I'm not a big reader."
@AlbertCashiersCousin - Here's one to puzzle over: why haven't the food growing monsters like Monsanto gone to war with Charles Koch for scorching the planet. It's like someone should go to war with Charles Koch for scorching the planet.
@AlbertCashiersCousin - Amazes me how it just keeps going and going, Insulin prices, gas-gouging and so on. I keep telling people it's as if the elite have already built their giant underground enclave and they're just wringing the last few pennies out of us so they can build Olympic swimming pools and driving ranges. The hubris is absolutely mind-blowing, it really is.
@altucker - Lol I was just listening to a Twitter pod run by one of the most popular center-leftists; it was centered around gaining followers. Unintentional hilarity. Also kind of sad really.
@AlbertCashiersCousin - Someone needs to text me if justice ever gets served to the elite.
@mcfate - They'd need real quantum computers, not the fake ones some companies are pushing, which use traditional binary bits. We're about 10 years away from the real thing, in my estimation.
@AlbertCashiersCousin - It's certainly the greedy motherfuckers option. And I've said for years now that the psychos who run these corporations need to do jail time.
Funny how corporate SM went from growing the Arab Spring to the Myanmar catastrophe. They're guilty of genocide.
@mcfate - Imo blockchain won't even be real blockchain wrt widespread everyday use in massive systems like FB or Amazon etc until the mining is done through actual quantum computers. The energy waste is stratospheric.
@mcfate - On face it's like he's more concerned with verifying users/posts through blockchain than actually improving social media discourse. In my first book I talked about how blockchain would help improve social media in the future by shutting down bots and sockpuppets. I'd welcome that even if it were Dorsey doing it, but I suspect that slowly but surely BlueSky will have to become a corporatized, overly net-nannied dump like Twitter/FB.
@DLBruin - ATM it does have a community that's very helpful toward beginners. But TBH I got a couple of uncool comments from people the other week when I posted the type of quirky "comedy Twitter" nonsense I usually pull there. Maybe I misread their intent; idk yet.
I'm still new to the idea of decentralized SM. I had a lot of fun on Usenet, so the concept of dissuading OT content is quite familiar. ITM CoSo itself seems to be somewhat centralized, largely with a reactive center-leftist slant.
@JeffThompson61 - Autotune's one thing, but what I hate a million times more is those skittery trap beats. Loathe entirely.
@mcfate - You mean Dorsey? I have no idea what that dude is on about these days. Like, how long does he think that $13 million seed money is going to last if BlueSky's going to "save the internet?"
I think he's a f--king kook, but BlueSky will happen, just watch.
@altucker - Totally.
One thing, though, I think if SM's going to be deeply decentralized, platforms should do away with Likes/thumbs-ups and let people judge posts by reading their written reactions. The Like button turns SM discourse into a dopamine chase and also fosters a mob mentality. People with low follower counts who put up great posts feel like losers when nobody engages, and meanwhile, people with a lot of friends but who post boring, redundant swill get their mediocrity encouraged.
@Silea - The whole thing's bizarre. Suddenly it's all about decentralized social media - at least for me; the Mastodon etc stuff wasn't even a blip on my radar until a couple of weeks ago, and now I have friends who are constructing their own instances and they seem happy as clams.
Still on Twitter mainly. Same old weirdness, like this AM I got yelled at by like 5 people for inferring Olive Garden sucks. Ffs, climate is screwed, Trump's inciting again, but don't diss Olive Garden! 😺
@DLBruin - Works for me. I'm new here, so my snark and idiotic jokes are kind of kept in cold storage atm.
NEW BOOK "My Year in the Online Left," a book on leftist solidarity out June 10th.
Wrote RUSSIAN NAZI TROLL BOTS, a book about right-wing trolling.
