They're used when there is a low clearance underpass or in a level crossing of a railway with aerial electric cables and they indicate the height limit (in the examples it's 4,20 metres). This roadsign is still in use with a different graphic
For today's #CoSoRoadSigns of Italy Toot we have a 1959 road sign that it's still been used in some motorways despite being superseded in 1992. This road sign indicates the use of lanes in a four -lane road: the lane on the left is only for overtaking, the central lane is รฌ for normal transit and the right lane is the shoulder @researchbuzz

This roadsign is a flyover/overpass marker sign where on the top there is the road identifier (in the example the A91 Roma-Fiumicimo motorway) and on the bottom the number of the flyover/overpass (in the example overpass/flyover number 6). This road sign has been introduced by the Public Works Ministry directive n. 1156 of 28 Feb 1997 after the phenomenon of throwing objects from overpasses/flyovers
