pro users can initiate DMs to non pro users, and once initiated, non pro can respond, and ya can have a back n forth conversation
to initiate a DM:
change the privacy status from public 🌎 to DM ✉️ (tip: always do this *first* lest you forget) and at-mention the user (or users) you wish to DM
all users mentioned can see the DM, but other than that, they are completely private

DMs are only able to be *started* by a Pro user, but may be sent to and answered by anu user.
Yes, DMs are 100% private to those mentioned by @ username (meaning you can DM multiple ppl in the same message).
