You know what? I think we did. No more ring-around-the-collar!
Stellar achievement. Yay humanity!
@danalan
I think a few things changed.
1. Materials technology made clothing more stain resistant
2. Advances in detergents and washing machines
3. Better personal hygiene
About (3)
When I was a kid (and I'm only 52) it was common practice to have a bath *once a week* usually on a Sunday. The rest of the week you had a soap and flannel at the bathroom sink. Most homes didn't have a shower installed.
So people were just more dirty in general.
Not smelly, just grimy!

And it looks like we have we successfully persuaded women out of using curlers entirely with the "curlers in your hair, shame on you" commercials.
You know, for all that I can still sing about 90% of that curlers jingle, I have no memory at all about what product it was actually for,.let alone what specific brand.
@misterfive @duglop The shit that sticks huh?🤷♂️ 🤣
I have one of those brain's that is about 99% full of useless song lyrics, yeah.
@misterfive @duglop You are not alone.
Also, I vaguely remember reading recently that most of those memorable jingles were written by Barry Manilow.
@duglop Well, Freedom 55 was a lie. I'd imagine this is too.😁
