- The clearest image ever taken of the surface of Venus. Immediately after this was taken, the lander... melted? Outlook: Cloudy with a chance of sulfuric acid.

@CLManussier most people are not "concerned about his age". that's a media talking point. Biden's biggest problems are he's boring (news can't make money rage farming off him) & Democrats really REALLY suck at getting any kind of messaging out on the accomplishments that actually real world help the people

"This has been going on for weeks. I know I just told you guys about it 2 days ago, but this needs to be resolved now!"

Uh, sir, it may have been going on for weeks but, as you said, you just told us about it 2 days ago. Had it really been a priority, you would have told us about it weeks ago so it could have already been resolved. By your own admission, you waited until 2 days ago to bring it to our attention. You're just going to have to wait.

I'm going to have to attend a funeral this weekend for someone who was a pillar of the community. Former alderman. Former school teacher. Former assistant principal. Dreading this because the church will be packed.

Getting to decide whether ethics rules apply to your own conduct is a privilege no one should have.

People are always willing to give you unsolicited advice on your spending, health, or food choices.

Meta is apparently down. Facebook Messenger, and Threads aren't functioning. Fun stuff.

"Dune: Part 2" did not disappoint. The theater was full and even the chatty couple sitting next to me stopped talking after only a few minutes. No small children and not a single cell phone screen was seen. These folks were there for the movie.

It has gone from 71°F at 6 AM to 52°F now and will be around 40°F in about 2 hours. This is some interesting weather we're having.

I had been watching this great video about the true size of Africa and how maps are wrong, why they're wrong, and how the ignorance is perpetuated about what the actual size of continents are ... and the best comment was

"𝘐𝘴 𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘭 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴? 𝘉𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘥𝘰 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴?"

US capitalism was built on the backs of African slaves, historian Gerald Horne explained in this 2017 clip.

The professor and author of about 40 books said cotton exports to European textile mills were a significant source of profit for US slave owners. As such, slaves’ bodies were considered solid investments.

However, Britain abolishing its slave trade in 1807 didn’t deter entrepreneurs.

Banks and insurance companies—among them Aetna, AIG, Bank of America, Citibank, JP Morgan Chase, New York Life and Wells Fargo—did brisk business with slaveholders and slave-ship owners.

Wall Street, the symbol of US capitalism, is named after a wall that African slaves built at a slave auction site.

So, next time you see stock exchanges on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean spouting impressive trade numbers, remember that African labour set them up for ‘success.’

A new media literacy podcast, Better Offline, had a lovely opener that relates to my last OS article.

"The Rot Economy: Ever wonder why Google results are getting worse, or why you aren't seeing your friends on Instagram? It's all because of the growth-at-all-costs economy that's swallowed the tech industry, where the user experience takes a back seat to monetizing every interaction with the platforms you used to love."

A good primer for your lay-person friends.

Is it just me, or did S02E04 of "Halo" have an unusually high body count of black actors? We lost <redacted> even though we were just introduced to him this season. We also lost <redacted> who has been on the show as a <redacted> from the start. Plus we lost <redacted> who has been on the show as <redacted> since the first season. Did <redacted> demand so much money to return to the show that the others had to go?

The season 2 finale of the new "Quantum Leap" knocked it out of the park. I've been really impressed with this reboot after my initial hesitation to watch it.

Despite hazardous working conditions, many states are rolling back child labor laws

It's amazing noone cares about this stuff anymore. If shareholder value is all that matters they might as well skip to the end and bring back slave labor. The only penalty would be a fine. Nobody would get voted out for allowing it. Partisans would blame the other guy.
