first of all, they very much do. second, what does that have to do with being president? third, how can you say your own gender can't run the country?

@dietotaku How do they understand what he’s even talking about? His wildly meandering word slurries are impossible to parse. They make no sense! I genuinely think people do not actually listen to him or really see him, they hear what they want to hear and see whatever hero in him that they want to see. None of it is based on reality.
@Helena_Handbasket it's all slogans and sound bytes. doesn't matter what the sum total of his speech is, they have tiktok attention spans and are tuning most of it out. all they pick up on is "bacon is so expensive!" "the RADICAL LEFT" "babies killed in the 9th month" "she's a stupid, horrible woman" etc. and if they don't hear it first-hand it's the sane-washed version from mainstream media.
@dietotaku I think alot of these beliefs start in their families of origin. I remember Kamala talking a lot about her mom (not so much about her dad at all I think they’re estranged) and how supportive her mom was of her and her ambitions. Many girls (myself included) never get that kind of validation growing up. We’re just expected to take care of everything and everyone and not think of ourselves and what we want. These messages really limit the scope in our thinking of what is possible.
@Siren_six i knew it was still a problem that girls are raised to believe that their role is to be subservient to men, that they are weak and their place is in the home... i guess because i tend to hear it from people who got out of that dynamic, i didn't appreciate how many were actually internalizing it and how widespread it still is.
well if we still have a democracy in 4 years, at least i'm validating the shit out of my daughter's aspirations.
this was the hardest to read. the sexism i expected, but i do not, cannot, and will not ever understand how anyone can listen to trump speak, much less believe him, and certainly not to the unshakable degree that has been demonstrated.
