Republican villains: criminals, immigrants, intellectuals, Black people, brown people, gay people, trans people, poor people, left-leaning people, women, children, Muslims, atheists, Jews, anyone who disagrees with them, and the Constitution
Democratic villains: Republicans and the rich (ostensibly)
that is an extremely simplistic and outdated definition of populism. again, there is a distinction between "doing what is right which is what benefits the people" and "telling the people whatever they want to hear whether it's right or even feasible."
and how the hell was Obama's 2012 campaign more populist than his 2008 campaign?!
is there anything more American than forfeiting democracy itself to save a few bucks at the gas pump?
I keep hearing this described as just "high winds" but there's an awful lot of trees broken like toothpicks and flung across the road around here for there not to have been at least an EF1 tornado involved... the view out my front door looked like that first scene from Twister when little Jo was looking out the window of their storm cellar
@dietotaku
Yes, getting someone like Trump into the office was just one of the steps.
@dietotaku I have seen reporting where people and children have been disabled because of eating too much tuna. Mercury poisoning is a thing. Eat shrimp, it is close to the bottom of the food chain!
@dietotaku
I think we'll learn eventually from better radar that some of these "straight" winds are the result of a funnel lying on its side and spinning around a horizontal axis.
Downbursts can cause tornado-like damage via straight line winds.
I hope everyone is okay 🩷

@dietotaku I've had to have this conversation with so many queer, and particularly gender-expansive, people.
The quote I use most is this: "Friend, you can say you don't do politics, but politics is gonna do you."
@lenaoflune yep. i usually phrase it like "you may not be interested in politics, but politics is VERY interested in you." noting that "interest" is not necessarily in a positive way...
allowing democracy to die won't fix the problems that made you disillusioned. politics will continue to have a massive impact on your daily life no matter what you do, so you can either make your voice heard, or sit back in silent defeat.
