Can the World Make an Electric Car Battery Without China?
"The only winner so far is China.
Despite billions in Western investment, China is so far ahead — mining rare minerals, training engineers and building huge factories — that the rest of the world may take decades to catch up.
Even by 2030, China will make more than twice as many batteries as every other country combined, according to estimates from Benchmark Minerals, a consulting group."

Bill Nye on climate change advice
I was somewhere around five years old when I noticed that all of the things that people were citing as "signs of the end times" were actually things that had been happening *every single year* for thousands of years (earthquakes! eclipses! rumors of wars! the great beast!).
But the things that were actually new and different and more dangerous weren't the things people wanted to talk about.
The meteorologist said there's a flood advisory in our area and that we should seek higher ground. In his next sentence, he warned of possible tornados, for which he advised we should take shelter in a basement or lowest level of our home.
My heightened anxiety doesn't know what to do with this information. 😳
@TubunMuzuru @paxterrarum Especially when heard from far away.

The Quiet Rise of Real-Time Crime Centers
Cities across the US have established RTCCs that police say protect the rights of innocent people, but critics warn of creeping surveillance.

"Few people know RTCCs even exist, let alone the extent of the surveillance they entail, so they can receive little public scrutiny and often operate without much oversight."
@DarksideStraxus I understood your subtext, I was just saying they will learn that hard way that Threads isn't going to be an improvement. People jumping from one sinking ship to another are providing me with quite a bit of entertainment lately.

@DarksideStraxus They're finding out that Threads is no Mecca. If you don't like it, you have to delete your original IG account to get rid of it, because they link. However, linking doesn't currently bring their followers onto Threads. There's also a "Oh, my! Was that a swear word?" warning that pops up as users try to post, and they keep getting dropped out while trying to upload pix and vids. It wasn't even ready for Beta, from the sounds of it. Glad I'm over here instead.
