Large pile of security research from the 2020 Network and Distributed System Security Symposium, including papers on topics as wide-reaching as hypervisor fuzzing and The Attack of the Clones Against Proof-of-Authority, which sounds like a very niche Star Wars sequel indeed.

The Architect & The Sun: A Black Future.

"The Bureau on “A Drop of Sun,” a series asking Black artists and writers to imagine Black futurity through rigorous exploration of abolition, radicalized environmentalism, and robust artistic expression. Here, author Malanda Jean-Claude imagines a world in which Black imagination is the faculty of freedom."

If Biden names Deb Haaland as secretary of the interior, it would be a historic move: She would become the first-ever Native American Cabinet member.

Note: Sec Interior is the office that directly deals with all things Native American

The Black Hole information loss problem is unsolved. Because it’s unsolvable.

I came across a particularly bombastically nonsensical claim that I want to debunk for you. The claim is that the black hole information loss problem is “nearing its end”. So today I am here to explain why the black hole information loss problem is not only unsolved but will remain unsolved because it’s for all practical purposes unsolvable.

Like fire and ice: Why societies are increasingly fragmenting.

"The transition, the researchers say, is abrupt. But what causes the tipping? In the phase transition of water, it is temperature; in societies, according to their theory, the tipping point is the number of contacts people have. Thanks to the internet, smartphones and social media, this number has exploded in recent years."

What Is the Best Strategy to Deploy a Covid-19 Vaccine?

Mathematicians are playing a key role in fighting the pandemic by modeling different scenarios for a vaccine rollout.

"The consensus among most modelers is that if the main goal is to slash mortality rates, officials must prioritize vaccinating those who are older, and if they want to slow transmission, they must target younger adults."

Does the human brain resemble the Universe?

"Despite the substantial difference in scale between the two networks (more than 27 orders of magnitude), their quantitative analysis, which sits at the crossroads of cosmology and neurosurgery, suggests that diverse physical processes can build structures characterized by similar levels of complexity and self-organization."

We are still paying off the debt to get cable run up the hill. Nobody want to add to that.

See you all Saturday evening.

The War Nerd: Gray Wolves — The Fascists Nobody Wants To Talk About
By Gary Brecher

There’s a gigantic, well-organized, extremely violent fascist group with tens of thousands of active members in Germany right now.

And nobody notices.

You’d think all the fascist-hunters would have sniffed it out by now, but it goes right by them as if these guys were invisible.

The Lobster And The Octopus: Thinking, Rigid And Fluid.

"The interaction of the octopus with the world is then nondual, in the sense that it cannot conceive of itself (if it conceives of itself at all) as wholly separate from the external world. Everywhere, the world moves through it; there is no clear separation between the subject and the object."

General Query :

What are you doing to Rest, Recover, and Recharge?

2020 has been a nightmare of stress. All of us are feeling the swings of emotion. So I ask, what actions do you take, to Rest, Recover, and Recharge?

Me:
I go back into the deep forest. Spend a while.
Then return, and take a small direct action, to help another human.
Then repeat.
over and over.
