How many of you read aloud to you lover. Or write letters by hand, on paper, and snail mail. Do things before they are asked of you. Sit in silence listening intensely to your lovers words. Habit and boredom are the death of love, spontaneity and humor feed it. Disagree lightly, and hold no grudges. But also speak passionately about your beliefs and ideas. It is a dance, not a race. Water flowing is the model.
Love is a verb.
I have used many words, to describe a partner in an intimate relationship.
I prefer to use "Lover"
But In the last few years I have been involved with a woman of French/Algerian heritage.
So we use:
"Amante" (French)
Or
"Rikhch" for men, "Rikhchem" for women, in tamazighte (Algerian Beber)
In public we use "Best Friend"
